How it works

  4. Return your books.  We’ll pay shipping AND we’ll send you the return envelope!

Pro Tips
  1. Search by ISBN. It’s the number that starts with “978” and is like the book’s fingerprint. Search by ISBN and you’ll get the right book, in the right edition, every time.
  2. Rent like it’s your job. If you only need a rental for a few weeks, we do that. If you need to keep your books longer—another week, month, or term—we do that too. Details below!
  3. Rent ALL your books. Seriously. If you decide you want to buy them later, we’ll just charge you the difference and you keep the book. There’s zero risk. Details below!
  4. Bake us cookies. No one knows why, but this makes you way happier. It’s the truth. It’s science.

Rental Periods
First things first: every rental with Vroman's Bookstore comes with a complimentary, free, built-in 15 day grace period. From final exams to food poisoning, we know your life’s hectic. Renting your textbooks shouldn’t have to be. So: you have a Rental Return Deadline, and if you can get your books back to us within two weeks of the deadline, we won’t charge you a dime.

Next things next: we rent textbooks for Semester (130 days), Quarter (85 days), or Summer (55 days) periods. Each rental period begins on the day we deliver your books, and you must postmark your books by the last day of your rental period (unless you need to use that 15 day grace period).

Finally: if you want to rent your book for an additional 15 or 30 days, we make Rental Extensions easy. Log in to your account, choose your extension length, checkout, and we’ll give you a new Rental Return Deadline. (If you have trouble, just Contact us!)

If you’re retaking your class or want to Re-Rent your books for any reason, we’ll give you a discount! Log in to your account, click “Re-Rent,” checkout, and we’ll give you a new Rental Return Deadline. (If you have trouble, just Contact us!)

If you just love your book and want to Buy it, awesome. We’ll count the money you’ve already paid us towards the purchase price, which means you just need to pay any difference between the purchase and the rental price. Log in to your account, click “Buy and Keep my Books,” check out, and the books are yours forever.

Receiving and Returning your Books

Getting your Books: After placing your order, please allow 24-48 hours for processing (excluding weekends and major holidays). Your books will be shipped from either the Vroman's Bookstore warehouse or the warehouse of one of our suppliers. Books may arrive in one or separate packages, and may or may not bear the markings of Vroman's Bookstore, depending on availability from our direct warehouse. After the processing period, please allow 7-14 business days for standard shipping, and 5-8 business days for expedited shipping. If your book has not arrived by the expected arrival date, contact us immediately. Our Customer Support team is really really good at what they do.

Returning your Books: You focus on getting a great education; we’ll take care of textbook returns.

After you receive your books, we’ll send you a FREE, PRE-PAID, PRE-ADDRESSED ENVELOPE. When it’s time to return your books, just stuff them in the envelope, then drop off the envelope at the nearest U.S. Postal Service blue mailbox or Post Office.

For your peace of mind (and ours!) each rental return envelope also has its own unique tracking number, so we can tell exactly where your books are at any time. When your books get to our warehouse, we’ll update your account and send you a confirmation email. Easy, right?

Renting textbooks helps keep prices
low for future students

You may not know this, but rental improves the bookstore's planning processes by keeping used books in our local ecosystem. This keeps stocking and distribution costs down, and provides more used books for our student body. When you rent, you not only save money for yourself, but for the students who will take your class in the coming semesters. This means a lot, and we sincerely thank you.


1. How do I track my books?
Log in to your account by clicking here. Once inside, you'll see your current textbook rentals listed along with a yellow box that says "track". Click there to view the tracking number and track your book(s). Note: not all books will have a tracking number, but most do and tracking numbers are loaded into your account as they become available.
2. How do I return my books?
Each time you rent textbooks from Vroman's Bookstore, you'll receive a bubble envelope with a prepaid USPS label attached to the outside. When you're done with your books, simply place them inside the return envelope and drop the package off at the nearest USPS drop box or Post Office. You may also print a return label from your online account. Both shipping methods are completely prepaid and will insure your books arrive at the correct facility.
3. Can I write or highlight in my books?
You certainly can. Just remember that future students will rent the same book after you, so try to be respectful.
4. How long will it take to get my books?
It depends on the shipping method you choose. We offer free shipping anywhere in the contiguous US which can take 7-14 business days. If you choose expedited shipping you can expect your order in about a week (5-8 business days). Remember, we offer a 21 day no-hassle money-back guarantee if you drop your class, order the wrong book, or just plain change your mind. You won't even pay for shipping.
5. Can I purchase my book after I rent it?
Yes, you can. You're only charged the difference between what you already paid to rent the book, and the value of the book at the time you initially rented. This is what makes renting textbooks so cool; it saves you money, while still allowing you to purchase the book if you'd like to. If you decide to keep a book, simply log in to your customer account, choose to purchase your book, and it will walk you through the checkout process.
6. Are there late fees?
We will do our best to make returning your book(s) simple and easy. As stated above, we even provide the return package with a prepaid label already attached. If however, books are not returned at the end of the rental period (and after the grace period), as specified in the rental agreement, the renter will be notified via email that their card will be charged for a 15 day extension of their book(s). If the book is not returned by the end of the 15 days the next charge will be for the purchase price of the book, which is: Market Value of Book at time of Rental - (Rental Fee + Extension) = Purchase Price of Book. We do work very hard to resolve every return discrepancy amicably. We want our customers to be happy and continue to rent textbooks throughout their college careers.
